CONCORD — At East Bay Comic-Con’s 4th annual festival Feb. twelve the costumes were good the culture improbable and crowds were flying high.

The family- and superhero-friendly event bills itself as Contra Costa County’s “biggest and best” funny book, toy and fantasy convention, and this year it drew close to 2,500 people to Concord’s Crowne Plaza.

As planes roared down runways at nearby Buchanan Field Airport, Comic-Con organizer and founder Stephen Wyatt raised his voice a few decibels to be heard above the sounds made by people holding mock superhero versus villain battles in the hotel atrium.

“We have a whole new location, with more space that’s more spread out,” he said.
